#Carmen is turning 150 years old today! Well, not the free, spontaneous, and gypsy girl. But the opera George Bizet wrote on Prosper de Mérimée's novel. I had the chance to embody this fearless caracter more than once, and last time was no longer than a few months ago @sfopera with a wonderful team, including a spectacular gypsy vanner Draco.

#concert Our sold-out tour with @orchestrenationaldefrance is already over! It was such a pleasure to make beautiful music with these amazing musicians and Maestro Hengelbrock. Singing a classical piece of bravery in Italian from Haydn in between 2 performances of the very romantic Wagner in German was a challenge in itself, but both suit my voice like my costumes : snug and wide at the same time!

#Backstage the first entrance is important! In Rheingold @operadeparis Fricka's first entrance is on a moving couch : legs up, head hanging off the couch, survival blanket on the side, leopard coat on my face. As the music starts, I move on the couch as if sleeping until I fall off just before my first sentence "Wotan, Gemahl, Erwache". And this is what I see (well, not see as my face is covered...) as I enter.

#Rheingold Wotan and Fricka. Gods but so human. The relation between them is very strong. Despite Wotan's frequent infidelity, he deeply loves/needs her for the moral pillar she represents. I also truly believe that every great man needs a strong woman by he side as the only possible form of alter ego when you have all the power. In Calixto Bieito's production, he chose to place the action in contemporary times where the gods are no longer invisible and abstract form. Here, gods are the people who concentrate on their hands, money, power, and influence. They behave as gods and are praised as "so" by a certain part of humanity. This combination creates a new "religion" for technology with the power and money it gives to the people who possess it.

#Rheingold The rehearsal process of Das Rheingold is coming to an end @operadeparis with the Sitzprobe/Italiana today and the piano dress rehearsal on Saturday. Fricka has only one problem : her husband's infidelity! Her, the goddess of marriage! What is the relation between Fricka and Wotan? How does she deal with the trade he made of her sister Freia for his castle? Why does he accept all her complaints? I'll tell you more about this new catacter in my next posts!
